Richmond Hospital Acute Care Tower

The facility plan for the Richmond Hospital Acute Care Tower modernizes healthcare services to support patient-centered care by optimizing healthcare delivery, supporting future demand, and promoting healing environments.

Inform Planning developed a High-Level Functional Program (HLFP) for Richmond Hospital that outlines the key flows, adjacencies, and space requirements for a new Acute Care facility on the hospital campus. Building on an earlier High-Level Master Plan, the program supports a phased redevelopment strategy. It prioritizes services that would benefit most from large-scale capital investment in the next phase of campus growth.

Focused on Essential Clinical Services

The HLFP centers on clinical components identified for inclusion in the new Acute Care facility, including:

  • Medical and surgical inpatient services.
  • Perioperative services, including pre-admission clinic, surgical daycare, post-anesthetic care unit, and operating rooms.
  • Ambulatory surgical services.
  • A medical device reprocessing department.
  • Biomedical engineering services.

Innovative Design for Patient Care and Efficiency

The programmatic requirements integrate advanced features to enhance care delivery and operational efficiency:

  • Single-patient rooms with private washrooms, improving infection control and patient comfort.
  • A state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU) designed for flexible patient acuity levels.
  • Centralized supply and equipment depots for streamlined operations.
  • Advanced technology, such as pneumatic tube systems and en-suite medical devices, to improve staff workflows and patient outcomes.

With this comprehensive plan, Richmond Hospital is positioned to deliver exceptional care and meet the evolving needs of its community while supporting future growth and innovation.
