Prince George Multipurpose Ambulance Facility Plan

The facility plan for the Prince George Multipurpose Ambulance Facility consolidates facilities supporting emergency health services centrally within the community to streamline operations, maintain service delivery, and create opportunities for paramedics to access regional leadership.

BC Emergency Health Services and Provincial Health Services Authority engaged Inform to develop functional programming content for a business case addressing space limitations at existing BCEHS facilities within the Prince George Operational Area. The goal was to address substantial service delivery challenges through the introduction of a Multipurpose Ambulance Facility (MAF) to serve the Prince George community. A MAF enables BCEHS to expand capacity to serve the community over the next 10 years. It also promotes more effective and efficient service delivery through the introduction of Equipment Supply Technicians and the creation of a Logistics Hub for BCEHS’ Northern District.

The project consolidates patient care delivery, logistics, and administrative leadership in a single facility, integrating operations across BCEHS service portfolios and allowing better support for paramedics while increasing time on task. It establishes a logistics hub for the Prince George Operational Area and Northern District where cleaning, maintenance and supply inventories can be managed efficiently by support staff, reducing supply and medication spoilage and ensuring vehicles and equipment are adequately maintained. Additionally, it features training rooms for staff development and secure storage for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.

The MAF vision for Prince George builds upon previous successful prototypes including a Central Reporting station in Victoria and the Delesalle building in Burnaby. MAF facilities are a central component of BCEHS’ 10-Year Capital Plan, which seeks to introduce 7 MAFs throughout the province. This plan enhances the efficiency of regional operations, supports resilience, and accommodates future growth to meet increasing service demands.
