New Edmonton Hospital

Advancing Healthcare Innovation in Alberta

The New Edmonton Hospital Project (NEHP) represents a transformative vision for healthcare in Alberta, integrating advanced clinical services, community health care, and innovative education under one roof. To be located in Edmonton, this greenfield hospital will address the region’s growing healthcare demands while incorporating modern models of care delivery, patient-centered design, and sustainable planning practices. KRA and Inform Planning, and representatives from Archus were key contributers to the consultant team. KRA led the design, Inform Planning contributed to the functional program and led the clinical specifications development, and Archus team members provided equipment planning consulting services.

Specialized Expertise

The NEHP functional programming benefitted from a consultant team experienced in planning acute, community healthcare and academic teaching facilities. KRA and Inform Planning ensured spaces were planned and designed to optimize clinical efficiency, enhance patient experiences, and future-proof the facility for evolving technologies and care models. Early-on in the process, KRA introduced a set of typical rooms diagrams demonstrating functional programming concepts in detail, to ensure buy in prior to proceeding with schematic design.

Representatives of Archus provided strategic equipment planning services, ensuring digital integration into the patient and staff experience at the future hospital.

Key Outcomes and Innovations

Once built, the NEHP is set to redefine healthcare delivery in Alberta through:

Integrated Care Models: Seamless connections between acute, outpatient, and community services to improve patient outcomes and reduce system pressures.

  • Education and Training: Spaces dedicated to professional development, simulation labs, and inter-professional learning to support the future healthcare workforce.
  • Innovative Design: Patient-centered environments that prioritize accessibility, flexibility, and sustainability, incorporating elements like telehealth capabilities and advanced automation.
  • With its holistic approach, the NEHP will serve as a flagship facility for the region, fostering excellence in healthcare delivery, community well-being, and professional development.
