Clayoquot Biosphere Centre Functional Program

The facility plan for the Clayoquot Biosphere Centre creates a hub for community engagement, research, and cultural exchange for the UNESCO-designated biosphere, providing a central venue for education, collaboration, and sustainable initiatives.

 The Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT) engaged Inform Planning to update the Functional Program for their proposed Biosphere Centre in Tofino, BC. Designed to enhance engagement with the Clayoquot Biosphere community, the new building will provide expanded space for CBT offices, accommodate visiting professionals and researchers in on-site residences, and foster collaboration through thoughtfully designed community spaces. 

Key Features of the Biosphere Centre

The proposed centre is envisioned as a hub for regional unity and knowledge sharing, featuring:

  • A multi-functional community meeting area.
  • Flexible office spaces for staff and coworking.
  • An Elders Room to honour traditional knowledge and practices.
  • A teaching kitchen for community and cultural programming

This innovative centre will serve as a cornerstone for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and regional unity, aligning with the goals of the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust and the broader biosphere community.

The facility plan for the Clayoquot Biosphere Centre focuses on creating a hub for community engagement, research, and cultural exchange. Key space concepts include a multi-functional community meeting area, flexible offices for Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT) staff, coworking spaces, an Elders Room and a teaching kitchen. The centre also features on-site biosphere residences to host visiting professionals. This plan provides a central venue for education, collaboration, and sustainable initiatives supporting the UNESCO designated Clayoquot Biosphere. The centre will help to fostering regional unity and knowledge sharing in alignment with the goals of the biosphere.
