City Workspaces Analysis

The City of Vancouver’s staff workspace plan emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and efficient space utilization to adapt to the evolving needs of its dynamic workforce.

The City of Vancouver is continually evolving its Administrative Campus to align with the dynamic work of its administrative staff. Inform Planning partnered with the City’s Real Estate and Facilities Management team to assess current space needs and update projections for future requirements over a 10-year horizon.

A Plan for Efficiency, Engagement, and Sustainability

The updated plan prioritizes space efficiency, employee engagement, and alignment with the City’s sustainability and accessibility goals. It addresses the unique challenges of hybrid work by enhancing staff well-being facilities while reducing the need for dedicated desks.

Key features include:

  • Flexible workstations designed for hybrid work models.
  • Collaborative “team” spaces to foster connection and creativity.
  • Well-being areas to support staff health and productivity.
  • Integration of natural light, ergonomic furniture, and multi-purpose rooms to maximize functionality.

To meet the evolving participation in hybrid work, the plan incorporates scalable solutions for adjusting space needs over time.

Building on a Strong Foundation

This project builds on the City Workspaces Functional Program completed in 2017 by two of Inform Planning’s Principals during their tenure at Perkins and Will. The update redefines space requirements for collaboration zones and business group workspaces, ensuring the Administrative Campus remains a vibrant, adaptable environment for years to come.
